📰 The Local Rundown

🗳️ Where Keller ISD's $828M Bond Landed

Keller ISD voters did not approve any of the five propositions in the district's $828 million bond, according to unofficial Tarrant County results with every vote center reporting. It was the district's first bond proposal since 2019. Here's how each one finished:

  • Proposition A ($756.3 million): maintenance, repairs and renovations at 34 campuses and facilities, including a partial rebuild of Keller Middle School. 46.60% for, 53.40% against.

  • Proposition B ($28 million): devices for students and staff. 43.89% for, 56.11% against.

  • Proposition C ($8.9 million): natatorium system repairs. 40.92% for, 59.08% against.

  • Proposition D ($11 million): athletic complex repairs and a renovation of the Keller High School field house. 36.10% for, 63.90% against.

  • Proposition E ($23.9 million): turf at middle school fields and high school baseball and softball fields. 34.46% for, 65.54% against.

In a statement, the district said the outcome doesn't change the facility, infrastructure and operational needs identified in its planning, and that Keller ISD will now evaluate how best to address them.

Three Keller ISD board seats were also decided, according to the district's list of unofficial winners. Rachel Weatherington won Place 4 with 70.18% over Geramie Parrish (29.82%). Andrew Walsh won Place 5 with 40.69%, ahead of incumbent Chris Coker (39.86%) and Colin Hodges (19.45%). Barbara Brewer won the Place 6 unexpired term with 51.53% over Tommie Johnson (48.47%).

Next door, North Richland Hills voters approved three of the city's four bond propositions: fire stations (55.80% for), streets (58.44%) and a city services complex (52.43%). The library proposition fell short with 48.94% for. All results stay unofficial until they're canvassed; NRH's City Council canvasses its results Nov. 17. For state and county races, both counties post full results.

🗑️ Trophy Club Weighs New Rules for Trash Carts and Noise

Trophy Club homeowners may soon need a new spot for the trash cart. At its Monday, Nov. 9 meeting, the Town Council will consider an update to the town's property upkeep and nuisance rules that staff and the town attorney drafted after an August work session on recurring complaints about parked commercial vehicles, garbage carts, tall grass, dead trees and noise.

Under the draft, carts would have to sit in a garage, a side yard behind the front of the house or the backyard between pickups, not in the front yard, the front driveway or the right of way. Written alternatives and disability accommodations would be allowed, and for the first 90 days that rule would be enforced with written warnings only. The maximum height for grass and weeds would drop from 12 inches to 10, and stumps left after a dead tree comes down could stand no more than 2 feet tall.

The draft also adds measurable noise limits: 90 decibels during the day and 70 at night (10 PM to 7 AM), measured at the property line of the home hearing it, plus a ban on car stereos that can be heard 50 feet away. And it would let the town tow trucks, commercial vehicles, boats, trailers and RVs parked in violation, after a 24-hour posted notice on public streets or a 10-day written notice and a chance for a hearing on private property.

Town staff recommends approval, but nothing changes unless the council votes yes. The meeting starts at 6 PM in the Council Chambers at 1 Trophy Wood Dr.

Tucked into the train depot parking lot on South Main Street, Vetro Glassblowing Studio & Fine Art Gallery is a working studio first. Founder David Gappa, a native Texan who spent time with the glass artisans of Murano, Italy, and helped start UT Arlington's glassblowing program while studying there, opened Vetro in May 1999. Today his team of glass artists works in the studio and stages live demonstrations, while the attached gallery holds hundreds of pieces, from small jewelry to sculptures, vases and chandeliers.

If you'd rather make something than shop for it, Vetro's Help Create events are built for beginners: an artist guides you through shaping a piece, and most run $55 to $75. Holiday ornament sessions are on the calendar from Nov. 18 through Dec. 23, and a snowman ornament runs Nov. 11 through Jan. 2, both $70 each. For a longer session, paperweight classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings take no more than two students at a time and cost $195 plus tax and fees per person.

The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM, and closed Sunday and Monday. Parking in Vetro's public lot is free, but it fills up during the holiday season, and November and December hours can shift, so call ahead around big downtown events.
