🌧️ Keller Seeks Regional Help for a Flooding US 377

Keller says US 377 floods during nearly every rain event, and the city wants regional help fixing it. In an Oct. 20 briefing to the City Council, Public Works Director Alonzo Liñán described "chronic overtopping of US 377," with highway traffic detoured onto residential streets. His presentation put the city's problem plainly: Keller is "not equipped for highway closures."

The next step is getting the problem into the regional Trinity Flood Plan, which the city says would improve its chances of funding a fix. Engineering firm Halff Associates, whose preliminary analysis confirmed the flooding risks, is set to submit it as a candidate project, and all submissions are due by the end of October. City staff told the council a council support letter is needed for the submission. If the project is accepted, it moves ahead for further refinement.

Keller has also raised the issue with TxDOT for its US 377 corridor study and with the North Central Texas Council of Governments. This isn't a new headache: in early 2025, the city flagged the drainage problem along Hwy. 377 near Marshall Ridge for a Trinity River Authority flood survey. The analysis so far is preliminary and subject to change, and no cost or construction timeline has been announced.

🌳 Colleyville's Texas Tree Trail Is Two Phases In

Need a new place to walk this weekend? Behind the Colleyville Senior Center at 2512 Glade Road, the city is turning nine acres of open space and a half-mile walking trail into the Texas Tree Trail, which it describes as a destination focused on trees native to Texas. The idea came from the city's beautification staff working with the Colleyville Tree Board, and the City Council backed it in October 2025.

Two rounds of planting are done. In February, crews put in 42 larger trees, including oaks, magnolias, Texas ash, Montezuma cypress, American elm, pine and bigtooth maple. In May came 64 flowering trees, among them crape myrtles, redbuds, desert willows, Texas mountain laurels, mesquites and Mexican buckeyes. A third phase, planting the rest of the trees along the trail, is listed as coming soon, and the park is open from 6 AM to 10 PM.
