📰 The Local Rundown
⚽ Grapevine Lines Up a 10-Year Soccer Deal

Solar Soccer Club has been playing on Grapevine's city fields since August 2025, and now it wants a long-term home for its competitive girls' and boys' teams. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, the City Council will consider a 10-year partnership and use agreement that would give the club designated practice fields and chances to schedule league games and tournaments, all subject to city approval and field availability.
In return, Solar would put $40,000 a year toward field improvements and maintenance, more than $400,000 over the life of the deal. The city would keep control of scheduling, maintenance and operations, and the agreement protects existing recreational programs and the city's commitments to the Grapevine Southlake Soccer Association (GSSA). Bigger upgrades like fencing, spectator areas or training facilities could come up later, but each would need its own review, funding plan and council vote.
The club has already been working with GSSA, running eight Monday Night Skills sessions, helping with the May 2026 Soccer Fest tournament, coaching clinics for rec coaches, and replacing goal nets at the Meadowmere and Oak Grove soccer complexes last fall. The Park Board approved the agreement 7-0 on Oct. 15, and GSSA's board signed off too.
Also on Tuesday's agenda: a $47,400 study of a combined police and fire training facility next to the police gun range on Enchanted Way.
🗼 Keller's Water Tower Is Due for a Fresh Coat

Keller's water tower at the northeast corner of Main Street and Keller Parkway hasn't been repainted since 2001. That could change soon: on Tuesday, Nov. 3, the City Council will consider a $249,200 contract with Viking Industrial Painting to refinish it, a project city staff started after concerns were raised about the tower's appearance.
Before lining up a painter, the city had engineering firm Baird, Hampton & Brown look the tower over in January. That visual inspection found no obvious structural issues. The tower is sound, with flaking paint, some exposed oxidation and a few small repairs to handle.
Because of the old coating, the job comes with full lead abatement and containment, along with abrasive blasting, a multi-coat urethane finish and putting the logos back on. If the council signs off, crews would start after New Year's, weather permitting, and the work should take about 6 to 8 weeks. The money would come from project savings in the city's facility capital improvement fund.
🗳️ Heading to the Polls Tuesday? Start Here

Tuesday, Nov. 3 is Election Day, and early voting wrapped up Friday. A few basics before you head out:
Polls are open 7 AM to 7 PM at every polling place in Texas.
Tarrant County voters can use any Vote Center in the county, not just the one closest to home. The county's elections page lists every location, with a map and voting wait times.
Bring one of the seven accepted photo IDs: a Texas driver license, Texas Election Identification Certificate, Texas personal ID card, Texas handgun license, U.S. military ID with photo, U.S. citizenship certificate with photo, or U.S. passport. If you're 18 to 69, it can be expired up to four years; at 70 and older, any expiration is fine.
No photo ID and can't reasonably get one? You can sign a Reasonable Impediment Declaration at the polls and show a supporting document, such as your voter registration certificate, a utility bill or a bank statement.
Registered in Denton County? Check Denton County Elections for your Election Day locations.
The county site also has a sample ballot lookup, so you can see what's on yours before you go.

❤️ Local Favorite: Tolbert's Restaurant & Chili Parlor | 423 S. Main St., Grapevine
Few bowls of chili around here come with a backstory like this one. Frank X. Tolbert was a Texas historian and longtime Dallas Morning News columnist who wrote "A Bowl of Red" and co-founded the Terlingua Championship Chili Cook-Off in 1967. The first Tolbert's opened in Dallas in 1976, and his daughter Kathleen and her husband, Paul Ryan, moved it to Grapevine's historic Main Street in 2006. They still run the Terlingua cook-off, too.
The signature Bowl of Red uses the same recipe Frank and his son developed, and it also comes in a version with pinto beans, as Frank's Frito Pie, or on top of the Terlingua Burger. Among the starters are Donkey Tails: two beef franks wrapped in a tortilla with cheese and deep fried. Tolbert's opens daily at 11 AM, has happy hour Monday through Friday and keeps a live music calendar.
