The CBD Brand that Actually Does What It Says

CBD is having a moment and CBD brands are everywhere right now. But with so many options, it can be tough to know what to look for – and which brands actually follow through on their claims.

That’s where CBDistillery sets itself apart. For the past decade, all of CBDistillery's products have been made with non-GMO, US-grown industrial hemp and with 100% clean ingredients – no corn syrup or artificial colors, flavors, preservatives or sweeteners.

They frequently introduce new and innovative products formulated to meet a variety of wellness needs and customer preferences. And every single batch of CBDistillery’s gummies, oil tinctures, topicals and softgels are tested by an independent, accredited lab to make sure what’s in the package matches what’s on the label.

Right now, CBDistillery is offering our readers a special deal: save 50% on orders of $75 or more with code NEWS50!

Pull the costumes out a couple of weeks early. Saturday, Oct. 17, brings four free fall events to our communities, and three of them have costume contests with a category for pets.

  • Butterfly Flutterby, Grapevine, 10 AM-2 PM: The 29th annual celebration of the monarch migration fills the Grapevine Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park (411 Ball St.) with live butterfly releases at 11 AM, 11:45 AM, 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM, plus crafts and a costume contest that includes a pets category (registration opens at 9:15 AM).

  • Harvest Festival, Colleyville, 10 AM-2 PM: The city's annual festival takes over Heroes Park at City Hall, with a costume contest and a separate one for pets.

  • Fall Fun Festival, Keller, 9 AM-3 PM: The 11th annual festival sets up outside Keller Town Hall (1100 Bear Creek Pkwy.) with vendors, food, face painting and trick-or-treating at the vendor booths. The kids' costume contest (12 and under) is at 11 AM, and pets take their turn at 11:30 AM.

  • Movies at the Plaza, North Richland Hills, gates at 6 PM: "Monsters, Inc." plays at dusk (around 7 PM) on the T. Oscar Trevino Municipal Center Plaza at City Hall (4301 City Point Dr.), with a Trunk or Treat benefiting Special Olympics from 6 to 7 PM. Admission and parking are free, seating is on the lawn, and snacks are for sale.

Saturday looks a lot cooler than this week, so bring a layer. Times and links for all four are in the calendar above, along with the rest of a busy weekend.

🏗️ Southlake Creates a Tax Zone for Shivers Farm

Southlake just took another step on Shivers Farm, the 40-acre development where developer Trademark Property Company says a Whole Foods will become the first major grocery store north of State Highway 114. On Oct. 6, the City Council created a tax increment reinvestment zone, or TIRZ, around the project's commercial district, Community Impact reports.

A TIRZ sets the land's current taxable value as a baseline (here, about $803,531 across 25.9 acres), then reinvests part of the new tax growth back inside the zone. In this case that's up to 95% of the increase, plus eligible sales tax, for public projects like water and sewer lines, streets, sidewalks and open space. The city expects the zone to generate more than $18 million before it ends on Dec. 31, 2047, or sooner if the costs are paid off.

The deal comes with conditions. Total city incentives are capped at about $18.9 million, and Trademark has to invest at least $127.9 million, create at least 200 full-time jobs by June 30, 2028, and finish the commercial section by the end of 2028, or its payments shrink. The project, which broke ground in September, also includes 37 single-family homes. Final project and financing plans go to the council on Nov. 3, with a vote scheduled for Nov. 17.

📍 Worth Discovering 📍

🏡 Keller's Story Lives in a 100-Year-Old House

On Bates Street in Old Town Keller, there's a small museum that's easy to miss and worth finding. The Keller History Museum is a volunteer-run, grassroots effort, and it lives in a house that was built on Main Street in 1926 and moved to its current spot in 2013.

Inside, the museum says you'll find photos, artifacts and stories from Keller's past, including the railroad that helped shape the town, along with hands-on exhibits for kids and guided tours from people who know local history best.

Saturday is a fitting time to stop by: the house turns 100, and Keller Public Library is throwing it a birthday party. It starts with a short presentation at the library at 10 AM, then moves to the museum for tours and outdoor games until noon. It's free, open to all ages, and there's no registration.

Keller History Museum | 133 Bates St., Keller | Fri-Sat 11 AM-2 PM | Free admission
