I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.

Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.

The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

📰 The Local Rundown

🏟️ Byron Nelson's New Stadium Needs More Time

Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club and Eaton High School in north Fort Worth are both getting new football stadiums, and both will take longer than planned. At the Oct. 26 school board meeting, Northwest ISD's construction update showed Byron Nelson's stadium 88% complete with delivery now targeted for February 2027, and Eaton's 62% complete with a May 2027 target. Both had been expected this November, Community Impact reported.

At Byron Nelson, the district added air conditioning to the concession stands, and the district's chief of facilities told trustees that designing, ordering and installing those units will take a few more months. A few punch-list items are also taking a different approach than planned. At Eaton, the schedule slid after utility work delays over the summer. The new arenas at both campuses, home to basketball courts and other competition space, are also targeted for May 2027.

Some bond projects are much closer. The district's dashboard shows Eaton's new cafeteria and the central transportation relocation both due in December, and Davis High School, the district's fourth comprehensive high school, on track for August 2027. The work is paid for by the bond voters approved in 2023.

🇺🇸 Grapevine's Veterans Day Parade Rolls Down Main Street Saturday

Grapevine's annual Veterans Day Parade steps off at 10 AM Saturday, Nov. 7, starting at Main and West Hudgins streets and heading north on Historic Main Street to East Wall Street. Retired Army Lt. Col. Joseph Campbell is this year's grand marshal, and free parking is available throughout the Main Street area.

After the parade, the Veterans Fair fills the public parking lot behind the Town Square Gazebo at 115 E. Worth St. More than 15 organizations will be there with information on veteran services, assistance programs and benefits. Hosted by VFW Post 10454 and the city, the fair also brings live music from Guitars for Heroes, an all-veteran band, military vehicle displays and food from AMBUCS and the Elks Lodge.

If you know a veteran who's been meaning to ask about benefits, it's an easy morning to bring them along.

🍽️ Local Table 🍽️

❤️ Local Favorite: Babe's Chicken Dinner House | 104 N. Oak St., Roanoke

Every Babe's Chicken Dinner House traces back to downtown Roanoke. The first one opened on North Oak Street on April 22, 1993, in a building that dates to 1908 and over the years housed a hardware store, a grocery and a plant shop. The restaurant held on to some of that history: the stamped metal on the back wall was once the building's ceiling, and name plaques in the rafters honor employees who helped build the place.

Dinner is served family-style. Pick fried chicken, hickory smoked chicken, chicken fried steak or chicken tenders, and the table gets big helpings of house salad, mashed taters, cream gravy, Grandma's corn and buttermilk biscuits. Kids 5 and under share for free, and the staff says to ask your server for some "Babe's Facts" while you work on that salad.
