🔄 A Roundabout Is Coming to Peytonville and Continental

If your school run takes you past Carroll Elementary, the corner of South Peytonville Avenue and West Continental Boulevard is about to change. Southlake plans to replace the traffic signal there with a modern single-lane roundabout, aimed at easing congestion and improving pedestrian safety during school drop-off and pickup.

It's the third phase of the city's $15.3 million West Continental Boulevard improvements project. The city's most recent update, posted Sept. 25, said this phase would begin in October and run through spring 2028. A few things to know before you drive it:

  • The road is planned to stay open to two-way traffic for the whole phase.

  • The work includes the roundabout, full roadway reconstruction, utility relocations and drainage improvements near the school.

  • The city asks drivers to allow extra time and use caution, especially at drop-off and pickup.

Earlier phases near Davis Boulevard added new turn lanes, and the city says the project has been running ahead of schedule. A final phase will repave West Continental between the two work areas.

🏫 Westlake Academy's Arts and Sciences Wing Is Rising

There's a crane on the Westlake Academy campus, and it means the school's new Arts & Sciences Addition is moving up from the foundation. The crane arrived Oct. 20, the Town of Westlake reported in its council recap, after a three-week steel delay that followed a national recall. The town said the project's own steel wasn't affected.

The addition at 2600 J.T. Ottinger Road adds about 8,000 square feet of classrooms and related space, according to the town's bid documents. At a July update, the project manager said the work was on schedule for completion in July 2027, with the team aiming for June.

The same Oct. 20 meeting brought good news from inside the classrooms, too: 60 of the 70 Class of 2026 students who pursued the full IB Diploma earned it, an 86% rate the school reported as above the global average.

🏦 Two Southlake Funds Just Earned AAA Ratings

Southlake's finances got an outside vote of confidence last week. On Oct. 22, Fitch Ratings upgraded the bond ratings of two city corporations, the Southlake Parks Development Corporation and the Community Enhancement and Development Corporation, to AAA, the highest rating available. Fitch also affirmed the city's own AAA general obligation rating, with a stable outlook.

Both corporations run on dedicated sales taxes. The parks corporation uses a half-cent sales tax for parks, trails and recreation improvements. The enhancement corporation uses three-eighths of a cent to support The Marq Southlake, home of Champions Club, along with eligible economic development projects.

The city says strong ratings can help it land more favorable terms when it does need to borrow. In its review, Fitch pointed to healthy reserves, reliable revenue and a strong local economy, and the city noted the upgrades also reflect changes in Fitch's rating criteria.

🔜 Coming Soon: Bush League Bar & Grill | 4843 Colleyville Blvd., Suite 330, Colleyville

A family-run sports bar from Hudson Oaks is planning its second location on Colleyville Boulevard. Bush League Bar & Grill will move into the space once home to Blu Crab Seafood House & Bar, which closed in 2022, and owner and chef Eric Tonips told Community Impact he's looking at the first of the year to open.

Back in Hudson Oaks, Bush League runs a scratch kitchen built around game day: hand-formed burgers grilled to order, double-battered onion rings, house-made sauces and wings in flavors from honey BBQ to ghost pepper, with 32 TVs and more than 25 beers on tap. Tonips has also cooked as team chef for the Texas Rangers, according to the restaurant.

The Colleyville address is already on Bush League's website as "coming soon," but no opening date has been posted yet.
