📰 The Local Rundown

🦟 West Nile Is Still Turning Up in Local Mosquito Traps

It's the middle of October, but mosquito season isn't quite done with us. Colleyville has reported its 15th mosquito sample of 2026 to test positive for West Nile virus, Community Impact reports. The sample was collected around 300 W. L.D. Lockett Road, one of six the city sent to Tarrant County for testing the week of Oct. 8, and the city has treated the area with fogging and larvicide, with more treatment and testing planned. Colleyville also reported a human case of West Nile around Aug. 11.

Tarrant County Public Health has logged 170 positive samples so far this year. Its most recent weekly report, covering Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, lists 14 in Colleyville (before this latest one), 13 in Keller, 6 in Grapevine, 5 in Southlake, 3 in North Richland Hills and 2 in Haslet. Over in Trophy Club, the town says its traps tested negative on Oct. 14.

Most people who catch West Nile never feel sick, but people over 50 and those with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of serious illness, according to the city. The CDC says mosquito activity can last through October, so the usual advice still applies: use a repellent with DEET, wear long sleeves and pants, and don't let water sit for more than two days in buckets, gutters or birdbaths.

🎭 Carroll Theatre's Free Three-Play Festival Wraps Up Tonight

Instagram post

Looking for something to do tonight that won't cost a thing? Carroll Senior High's theatre department closes out its first fall festival this evening, with three student plays staged on the same night in two spaces at the school in Southlake.

At 6:30 p.m., "Lord of the Flies" takes the auditorium stage while advanced students perform William Inge's 1953 drama "Picnic" in the more intimate black box. "Peter and the Starcatcher," the prequel to Peter Pan, follows in the auditorium with a cast made up entirely of freshmen, all performing in their first Carroll Senior High production.

Admission to all three shows is free. The school is at 1501 W. Southlake Blvd., and Carroll Theatre posts updates on Instagram at @carrolldragontheatre.
