📰 The Local Rundown

🏭 Carrier Picks AllianceTexas for a 1,500-Job Plant

A major manufacturing project is headed for the Alliance corridor. HVAC maker Carrier announced Thursday that it plans to invest more than $600 million over the next three years in a new advanced manufacturing and engineering center at AllianceTexas in far north Fort Worth. The company says the project will create 1,500 manufacturing, engineering and other jobs.

The plant will fill the more than 1-million-square-foot Alliance Westport 12 building at 1501 Distribution Drive, next to the recently opened Wistron plant, according to the Fort Worth Report. Carrier says it will build air- and water-cooled commercial chillers and other cooling systems there for data centers, health care, schools and other customers, with operations expected to start in 2027.

Fort Worth's City Council helped move the project forward on Sept. 15 by approving a seven-year tax abatement valued at $10.9 million, the Report says. Carrier also plans to partner with local schools and colleges to train workers for the new jobs.

🚗 Keller Weighs Garage Condos for Car Collectors

Car collectors could get a gated place of their own just off Keller Parkway. On Tuesday, Keller's Planning and Zoning Commission holds a public hearing on a Garages of America request to rezone about 5.6 acres on the east side of North Pate Orr Road, just north of Keller Parkway, from Town Center to a planned development.

The plan pairs 43 privately owned garage condominiums, built to house high-end vehicles and anchored by a clubhouse, with a self-storage building of about 610 units and up to three stories. Owners could do light cosmetic work on their cars, but no one could live on site. The property would be fenced in decorative metal with five gates. Because the lot is narrow, the developer is asking for slimmer landscape buffers along the north and south edges, and says it is still scheduling a neighborhood meeting.

The same agenda includes The Persimmon Club, a membership-based indoor golf club with six TrackMan simulator bays and a nine-hole putting green proposed for 8835 Davis Blvd., plus patio murals for Luna Loco, a new Tex-Mex restaurant at 228 S. Main St. The meeting starts at 7 PM at Keller Town Hall. The commission makes recommendations; zoning changes and specific use permits like these then go to the City Council for a final vote.

🚰 Grapevine Moves to Replace 32 Faulty Water ValveLast winter, a 20-inch water main broke at Grapevine's service center, and a valve stuck in the open position turned the fix into a costly emergency repair. That prompted a check of more than 9,000 valves across the city's water system, and the testing, finished in August, found 32 that didn't work, Public Works Director Bryan Beck said.

On Oct. 20, the City Council approved a $3.5 million contract with Ruts Construction for water, sewer and storm drain work over the next 12 to 18 months, Community Impact reports. The first job, about $543,000, replaces those valves, many of which sit on transmission mains where a break would be hard to fix without water restrictions. The contract also sets pricing for emergency work, with the crew able to mobilize within four hours.

🔜 Coming Soon: Little Dutch | 1285 S. Main St., Grapevine

A new Italian restaurant is about to open on South Main Street. Little Dutch officially opens Monday, Oct. 26, according to the City of Grapevine, with Italian dishes at the center of a menu that also borrows from other regions. The restaurant bills itself as contemporary Italian for lunch and dinner, with a wine list and craft cocktails, served under a glass atrium with crystal chandeliers and a green glass bar.

The name has a story behind it. Founder Noti Krasniqi was nicknamed "Reagan" as a boy in Kosovo, and later learned that Ronald Reagan's own boyhood nickname was "Dutch." Krasniqi also owns Mio Nonno Trattoria in Flower Mound. Hours aren't posted yet, but reservations are open on the restaurant's website.
